Calendar
Rich Calendar Time
What current students are saying about the Meaningful Math Learning online classroom:
Darlene's Math For Success's online classroom is building my confidence and my growth mindset on how to successfully teach math in a fast paced and very engaging way. Just to warn you...Darlene's passion to learn new skills towards teaching math is contagious. Plus...who doesn't love to do P.D. in their P.J.'s snuggled on their couch at home! ~ Margaret L.
I have just started my lessons on the online classroom. Already I've been able to apply what I have learned from Darlene as well as my classmates. Darlene provides feedback to our assignments quickly. This helps guide my thinking and helps me with the direction I need to go in next. My classmates are able to chime in as well. Just like in our own classrooms we can learn from each other and see each others thinking. Thanks Darlene for this learning opportunity! ~ Mary S.
Many primary teachers do incorporate calendar time into their math classes and the majority of upper elementary teachers do not. Often in the primary classrooms it is a quick routine and is not utilized in a manner that can provide students the opportunity to engage in rich problem solving tasks that connect to the real world. Upper elementary teachers can also incorporate calendar into their math classes that provide students rich math learning connected to their daily life.
In my Math For Success Teacher Guide Books, Kindergarten to Gr. 6, each day begins with a calendar routine. I will be including this into my Grade 7 book as well which is in currently in pilot mode.
This course will provide you with the opportunity to understand how to use a calendar in your daily math lessons that will not only engage your students with rich learning tasks, but will also demonstrate to your students the importance of a calendar to their daily life (real world).
